Downtown Awaits the Arrival of the City Christmas Tree Comments (0)Jocee Weaver On this coming Monday, November 17th, the Downtown will receive a
joyful burst of the holiday spirit with the arrival of the City’s official
Christmas tree. The tree, which has been graciously donated by Ronald and Vicki
Boerner, will be cut down by Industrial Contractors on Monday morning around
6:00 a.m at 14200 N. St. Joseph Avenue. It will then be transported Downtown to
Second and Main Street where it will be decorated with lights by Evansville’s
dedicated city workers. The tree is scheduled to be lit during the
20th Annual Downtown Holiday Parade on Sunday, November
23rd and will remain lit throughout the
holidays.
**************************************************************************************************************** Now
in its 20th year, the Downtown Holiday Parade has become a community tradition
for ringing in the holidays. Each year, thousands gather along the Downtown
sidewalks to watch the beautiful floats, marching bands, clowns, dancing troops
along with much more. The day’s festivities include the lighting of the City
Christmas Tree and the highly anticipated arrival of Santa Claus. In addition,
Santa’s Workshop presented by Fifth Third Bank will be located at the park on
Fourth & Main from 1pm to 3pm and includes photos with Santa, free arts and
crafts for kids and live entertainment. The parade begins promptly at
3pm. Event
sponsors include Fifth Third Bank, Evansville Courier & Press and Regent
Communications. For more information please call Jocee Weaver, Events Director
for the Downtown Division of GAGE, at 812.424.2986 (w) / 214.288.2968 (c) /
jocee@downtownevansville.org. A not-for-profit
public-private partnership, The Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville was
created in early 2007 through the concerted efforts of government, business and
higher education. GAGE has three operating divisions: Entrepreneurial, which
operates Innovation Pointe; Downtown Development; and EnGAGE, the program of
business outreach and assistance. #
