Kiddos - For the love of Pete, get 'em off their butts Mr. Mom
Are we settled back into the
school/extracurricular activity/Lord-knows-what-else rigmarole? No? Well, how
about getting those rug rats out of the house for some fun in the best weather
season of all – autumn. That’s a completely subjective opinion, of course, but
it happens to be correct. So “Nyah,” as my little ones might say.
First Annual Native American Relic & Art Show
While certainly not an
exclusively children’s related event, this is great for older kids who have an
interest in such things. Come and see various tools, relics and other artifacts
from the past that represent the rich cultural heritage of the Native American
cultures that flourished on this continent and whose techniques live on through
reproductions. The Show will be held at the SpringsConferenceCenter on October 3 from
7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cold Stone Creamery will arrive at 11 a.m. to serve their
special brand of frozen goodies, too. Come one and all for this fine show,
presented by the Western Kentucky Archeological Society.
23rd Annual Farm Festival
The Show Grounds on Karns Grove Road is
where to be on October 3 and 4 for the ultimate in antique tractors and farm
equipment. Restored and worn out stuff will around for your drooling pleasure,
and plenty of things to do will be offered, including contests, races, a flea
and craft market, rides for the kids, a power parade each day, a garden tractor
pull on Sunday the 4th and more. To get there, head east out of town
on 54, two miles past Philpot to Karns
Grove Road and follow the signs. For more
information, call 812-649-9242.
Sesame Street Live – “When Elmo Grows Up”
If your toddler is anything
like mine, Elmo’s pretty much the greatest thing next to chocolate milk, drawing
on the walls, stripping naked and running wild and questioning everything. The furry red three-year-old
Muppet will be joined by Sesame Street relative
newcomer Abby Cadabby along with Zoe, Rosita and more happy, friendly monsters
from the Children’s Television Workshop for three performances of the
music-filled “When Elmo Grows Up,” October 20 and 21 – 7 p.m. on October 20 and
21, and with a special morning show on the 21st at 10:30.
