Largest Native American artifact show coming soon

When you stop to think about how much potential for learning there is in the city of Evansville, we must consider ourselves quite fortunate. During the last weekend of July you will have an opportunity to educate yourself in Native American history by attending an Indian artifact show that is touted as the largest artifact show in the United States. It is the 30th Annual Evansville Indiana Indian Artifact Show that is being held in downtown Evansville at The Centre, July 31, August 1st & 2nd. The show boasts attendance of over 3000 guests in the past and this year is projected to be even bigger.
The show's hostess, Kathy Finley, of Tell City, Indiana, has been dedicated for a number of years in making sure the show does go on and that it is successful. Finley says what you are going to see includes items dating from prehistoric and historic Indian cultures, including arrowheads, primitive tools, moccasins, clothing, beads and rugs. These are not only beautiful pieces of art, but actual pieces of history – plus you have the opportunity to purchase a piece of Indian culture and history. Over 300 tables are rented by reputable dealers (which is EXTREMELY important) from nearly every state in our country and from several international dealers. You are also going to find new items that have been made for the show, such as jewelry, beads and rugs. As a bonus, you will also enjoy artifact displays created by artists and Indian culture collectors who attend shows such as these for the sole purpose of sharing their knowledge with the public.
As provided last year, authenticity experts will be present to assess any artifact that is brought to them at the show. The charge is $20 to determine if the piece is authentic and you will also have the opportunity to have the piece appraised for an additional $5.00 charge. If your item is authentic, the panel of three experts from Illinois, Ohio and Indiana will sign a certificate verifying the authenticity. The group of experts has over 100 years of experience among them and you can rest assured you are getting concise answers about your piece.
The event begins with a preview on Friday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m. You can enter the show early and get "first pick" of the artifacts offered for sale. If you are a serious collector or if you want to begin a great collection this is the time to do it.  The fee for the preview is set at $25 which will include admission to the show for the remaining two days.
The show is scheduled to open on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and run until 5:00 p.m. Sunday's show hours are 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday & Sunday admission fee = $6 per person or $17 per family. If you are interested in renting a table, eight foot tables are available for $75 per table for dealers and display collectors.             I'm not sure you can find something more entertaining where you can spend $6 for a day (in an air conditioned venue at that) and educate yourself with such fascinating historical information. I'm told that the dealers and the display collectors are full of information and stories to share and they love to answer questions from the public. If you have children this is a fantastic opportunity to allow them to see a wide range of authentic Indian tools, arrowheads, clothing, jewelry, pottery and to learn from dealers educated in the history of the artifacts. We must support events such as this so we don't lose sight of the historic cultures that inhabited our beautiful land and the land of other countries as well. Don't miss it folks.
